Works great, good range. 100% battery powered = great for power outages.
I was on the fence about spending this much on a fireplace remote for our propane-fueled "wood stove." However, I have no regrets as it's been well worth it. The remote has good range, our stove is in a living room with a high lofted ceiling, and our bedroom is then in that loft space. Because the heat affects our bedroom significantly more than the living room, we place the remote on the railing upstairs to sense the temperature. No issues with getting out of range. The best part is that it's DUAL battery powered. While some may see this as an inconvenience, it truly is not. In other models, the remote is battery operated but the receiver plugs in to the wall. That's great for saving $6 worth of batteries per year, but when the power goes out, no more fireplace thermostat. Because the receiver on this model uses batteries as well, we're able to "set it and forget it" and know our home will stay a safe temperature even if the power is out for an extended period. For what it's worth, we've had this thing for exactly a year - a low battery icon appeared about a month ago. Haven't swapped batteries yet and it's still working fine, though we'll change them soon for the peace of mind (in case the power goes out while we're gone). The wall plate is a nice touch. Obviously, you do not HAVE to mount the receiver in the wall gang, though it's a very cool option. Depending on your setup, you might decide to just leave the receiver either loose or mounted near the fireplace/stove, as long as you can get to it the one or two times a year you'd want to disable the receiver (going on vacation etc).
